ECJ01 Yacuma Lodge 4D/3N

yacuma ecolodge amazonDuring the 4-hour drive from Quito to the town of Tena, you will experience a dramatic change in climate, terrain and scenery. From Tena, we will head for two more ours, for the indigenous village of San Pedro, where our canoe will be waiting to take us on a 30-minute journey down the Napo River to Yacuma Lodge. Located on the riverbank in a wonderful spot of the Ecuadorian rainforest, Yacuma Lodge is simple, yet cozy, comfortable and the perfect destination for nature lovers.

Day 1

Quito – Yacuma Ecolodge:

We expect your arrival at mid-day in the city of Tena. Here our Spanish / English speaking tour conductor/translator will be waiting you for your transportation (1½ hours) to the small Indigenous village of San Pedro. From here, by canoe we navigate for about 30 minutes downstream along the Napo River, arriving at Yacuma Lodge in the afternoon and where you will be welcomed with a typical cold drink. After being accommodated in the typical bungalows, with the company of one of our expert’s Indian guides we go to the Birds Island where we make a short hike in the forest around the Laguna Escondida (Hidden Lagoon), a special place where we can observe different species of jungle birds: river Garzas (great egret), Great Blue Heron, King fisher, Garrapatero, Oropendolas, etc. One of the most interesting birds is the Hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoatzin), the Amazon's weirdest and rather shy bird except for the breeding season. It has a punk hair-do, and a bright blue face. Added to that it smells horrible, so it's also called the "Stink bird." It eats only leaves, so is rather heavy, and hence a clumsy flyer. Later on we canoe back to the lodge for a rest followed by delicious dinner.
